Every Woman is Beautiful

Out of all of the ads out there in our world not all of them are sexy images some like this Dove ad are about real beauty and focuses on the real non-airbrushed woman.
I think that every woman should consider herself beautiful no matter what shape or size she is!
Growing up in a time of "sexy" looking ads I was always taught by my mother that woman don't actually look that perfect like they do in the ad. The beautiful imagines we are exposed to are airbushed and stretched to make the model look skinnier, taller, and they can even up their boob size! My mother taught me that no matter how hard I try I am always going to look like me and not like the fake imagines in the media. Like these woman in this Dove ad I am happy being perfectly imperfect.

The Color Pink and Sexuality in Young Girls

Looking at the two photos above the one on the left displays a young girl dressed in pink who does not appear to be trying to be sexy or seductive at all complared to the picture of the right. So the question I am asking is whether the color pink has anything to do with sexuality.
In the video we watched in class today one of the woman seemed so sure that the color pink was making young girls more prone to acting and dressing sexy and I feel that this is not the case. Sure many sexy advertising imagines in the media use the colour pink but not all do. Most companys use a variety of colors for example in this ad by Victoria Secret uses the color blue and this image would still be considered sexy by most.
So to me this means that any color can be made sexy its all about whats going on in the ad. The reason I think that the lady in the video figured the color pink has sexual meanings is because a lot of ads use the color; it is a stereotypical girl color where darker colors are stereotypical for men. Just because I girl likes the color pink doesn't mean she is going to start acting and dressing like a postitute.

Tampons: Open Suject or Secret

In today's class we watched part of The Vagina Monologues. This particular skit was on menstration and how a woman feels about getting her period. This also reminded me of my grandma (yes I do really miss her) and the time that I was carrying a tampon around her house. I didn't think it was anything but my grandma quickly said, "you better hide that Sam". Which got me thinking; who am I hiding my tampon from? My grandma? My grandpa? There family right I shouldn't have to shove my tampon under my shirt so that no one can see it.
After today's class I realized that maybe my grandma has different views this subject. She feels as though it is a topic is something to be kept secretive and this is what The Vagina Monologues is totally opposite of my grandma The Vagina Monologues views menstration as a normal thing that should be talked about openly. I also feel like having your period is not something that need to be kept a secret; though I am not going to run around telling people but I'm not going to keep it a big secret either.

Generational Differences

The first thing that popped into my mind regarding Habermas' Paradigm of situational interpretive is my grandma. The reason my grandma came to mind is not because I miss seeing her everyday, its because of her views and attitude towards the homosexual community. My grandma grew up in a generation where being homosexual was frowned upon and discouraged. She views people that are homosexual as wrong and sometimes even "gross". It's impossible for me to watch Ellen Degeneres without having to listen to her make comments about how "wrong it is that such a funny woman can be so gay". Where I really could care less what her sexual orientation is. I find I don't care because I have grown up in a generation where sexual orientation is freely expressed everywhere. This is where the situational interpretive paradigm comes into play. My grandma and I have different world views on homosexuality because of our past experiences and the generation we have grown up in and this is what the situational interpretive paradigm is.
This clip is from the 1982 film Grease 2 and I felt that it went along really well with what we are going to be learning in FAM 322 this semester. In human Sexuality we will be learning about things like sexual attraction, intercourse and realtionships. All of these concepts are clearly sang in this video by the students. The teacher in trying to keep things PG and talk about flower reproduction but the students have something else on their minds; you could say the that their "minds are in the gutter". This could be because they are teenagers filled with raging hormones and will take any opportunity possible to talk about sex. We will be talking about sex a lot this semester so with that welcome to my blog on human sexuality.
